Holiday Tips On Gifting An EReader

by Penn on December 1, 2011

Ebook and eReader sales have been rocketing upward over the past few years, and don't expect that trend to stop until the market becomes saturated.

That's good news for many of us who suffer from writer's block (gifter's block?) when it comes to giving gifts, because it's hard to think of a gift that's easier (and cheaper) than an eReader. Sure, it might not be dripping with sentiment the way a Kerouac first edition might, but as a utilitarian gift, it beats a gift certificate or a some mp3's.

The best thing you can do here is go simple. The simpler the better. If the recipient really loves books, he or she won't need the bells and whistles. Further, stay away from iPads and anything with a glossy screen and short battery life. You'd rather go simple than needlessly complex, and if they want to upgrade, that's certainly their prerogative.

Further, load the ereader up with a few books. It makes for a much more personal gift, and what's the point of giving someone a gift if they have to spend more money to use it right away?
